BackOffice

We introduced a robot named Klara into a working office, then invited the employees to rewrite her.

BackOffice — Open lab and robotic intervention in a workplace
BackOffice, 2017. Made with and inside Klarna, 2017.

I — The workConcept

BackOffice is an open lab for employee engagement and a disruptive look at office culture. We introduced a robot, Klara, into the everyday life of a technology company. Beyond the features we built — delivering mail, staging games, remembering birthdays — we offered the staff a crash course in rapid prototyping and physical computing, and in a makeathon developed new features with them to fit their own workplace.

III — The storyMaking & meaning

Offices are designed for productivity, rarely for play or curiosity. We wanted to see what would happen if a new kind of colleague arrived — one that needed the staff's help to find its place. The robot became a pretext for conversations about how people actually work together — and the employees became its co-authors.
